QUITO FOOD BANK

About us?

QUITO FOOD BANK

Food banks are a proven solution to feed communities in situations of food vulnerability, through concrete and committed actions. Join us to create a network of volunteers that empowers Ecuador in a fight against waste and hunger.

Mission

Being a bridge between abundance and lack, through the rescue and redistribution of food.

Vision

Eradicate hunger among people of extreme poverty in the city of Quito.

Values

Solidarity, honesty, efficiency, resilience and joy of helping.

Our History

The first food bank of Ecuador made the first collection of food on April 12, 2003, having just a small cellar of 12 m2 and the only resources to start were the good will and the conviction of its founders.

The first food delivery benefited a group of 300 people through 3 Institutions: the Inti Parish School, the San Pedro Claver feeding center and the San Ignacio de Loyola Fraternal Aid Center. They received the first 252 kilos of food saved from being wasted.

The years kept passing and were accompanied by more support, a larger warehouse, more volunteers, international project financing that allowed us to have food processing equipment and more companies and institutions that joined our cause.

By 2018, the Food Bank fulfilled 15 years of uninterrupted work and thanks to the support of our benefactors, volunteers and our strategic partners we can now help more than 45 Institutions and 485 families of limited resources and we continue with the firm commitment of not to rest while there is a gram of food that is wasted, in the face of so much need.
